Backpack Buddies was started in 2006, as a youth mission at Rolesville Baptist Church. Jeff Pethel was the youth minister and had seen a young child in a convenience store scraping money together to eat a meal. His mission grew quickly due to his compassion and dedication.
In September 2011, North East Wake Backpack Buddies developed into a 501 c(3) non-profit organization separate from the church.
High school students from across Wake County have joined together to form a student board. They dedicate their time to develop fundraising opportunities, help with packing bags, and promoting us through social media.
Linda is not new to NEW Backpack Buddies, she has been an integral roll in leading the North Forest Pines Elementary onsite pantry. This school year with Linda's efforts Durant Road Middle School was able to set up their own onsite pantry.
Linda's philanthropic efforts do not end there. You can find her hosting children from foreign nations, collection donations for housing efforts in Nicaragua and helping support her friends' charities.
You will find Linda doing all of this with a smile and maybe a grandchild or two along for the fun.
NEW Backpack Buddies is proud to have her as a member of our team!
Linda will be our new Volunteer Coordinator: firstname.lastname@example.org
Because hunger doesn't take the weekends off.
Volunteer to pack weekend food bags with us.
Groups of 10-12 people are welcome to sign up and join a pack coordinator on Thursday evenings to pack all the needed food bags for that week. It’s an excellent volunteer opportunity for all ages (younger children should be supervised). Email our volunteer coordinator at email@example.com for details and save your date.
How can you help?
